Jan Hooimeijer has been a popular key note or guest speaker at various symposia and events at home and abroad for many years. His program 'Parrot Health, Behavior and Welfare' is extremely popular among students and veterinarians and has inspired many to pursue a specialization in avian medicine.

Drs. Jan Hooimeijer, avian veterinarian, graduated from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Utrecht University in 1982. From 1983 until his retirement as a practicing avian veterinarian, he owned the Bird Clinic and in 2013 he founded the Advisory Practice for Birds. His focus is on dealing with the prevention of health and wellness problems. Drs. Hooimeijer is a recognized parrot behavior consultant, member of the Association of Avian Veterinarians, the AAV Welfare Committee, the AAV Conservation Committee, member of the European Society of Veterinary Clinical Ethology.
His work includes the development of the Dutch 5-step behavioral protocol to create a relationship based on mutual respect and trust. This protocol serves as a tool to prevent, address and solve behavioral problems.

2025 is an anniversary year, because 25 years ago in 2000, the Bird Advisory Practice took the initiative to organize the first picnic/walk with parrots.

Take the 'Loving' parrots and parakeets course and learn how health, behavioral and welfare problems can be prevented. In the behavioral course we teach you, among other things, how to respond to intelligence and cognition and how to reward this. The course is held several times a year at various locations in the Netherlands. You can easily register for this via the website.
